This April just due west of Chicago is bringing more than showers, from egg hunts to Earth Day Celebrations and block parties, April is bringing a blooming good time.
Glow Wild
At Brookfield Zoo Chicago - The Glow Wild lantern festival transforms the night into a glowing celebration of art, culture, and conservation. Wander illuminated pathways surrounded by handcrafted lanterns inspired by wildlife global traditions and mythical worlds.

River Forest Egg Hunt
Join the River Forest Park District and the Bunny for springtime fun at their annual Egg Hunt. The event is held in specially designated areas of Keystone Park West. Children ages 2-10 will be divided into age groups, and hunt for hundreds of candy and sticker eggs with children of similar age. Children should also be on the look-out for special golden eggs that are redeemable for prizes.

Brew Passport Tour
The Brew Passport Tour is a month-long celebration featuring signature caffeinated drinks from local businesses in Downtown Oak Park. Highlights include these limited-edition specials: Ube Latte from Sugar Fixe Patisserie, Spring Bloom Matcha from Gyumon Japanese BBQ, and Blueberry Muffin Cafe au Laite from Lea French Cafe.
Sip eight or more drinks on the tour, be sure to pick up a stamp card at any participating business, and explore and collect five or more stamps to receive a travel coffee mug. Then bring it to the Downtown Oak Park Business Alliance Office, located at 1010 Lake Street, Suite 114, by May 29;hours: Mon-Fri, 10 am-4 pm.

In honor of the week, over 14 partners across Oak Park and the surrounding community will be hosting family-friendly events like a construction-themed block party in the Hemingway District, storytimes, yoga sessions, music classes, and more throughout the week! Drop in for one event or all of them with your kiddos. All events are free.

Good Trouble: Ben Blount + Catherine Jacobi exhibition opening
Save the Date! Good Trouble: Ben Blount and Catherine Jacobi opens on Sunday, April 19th in the Riverside Arts Center’s Freeark Gallery, curated by Joanne Aono. Join us from 3-6pm for a reception for the artists. Featured are Blount’s letterpress prints and books along with Jacobi’s found object constructions, sculptures, and prints addressing immigration, human rights, race, and civil liberties;. Both artists channel difficult and disturbing issues into their art, allowing us to process the information to shape our own thoughts. As they create good trouble, they prompt us to continue our necessary conversations and actions.

Dino Works
Dinosaurs big and small will fill Wonder Works from March 26 to April 13, 2026 for our most anticipated learning theme of the year. Aspiring Paleontologists of all ages will be delighted by the wide array of dinosaur activities, starting with the life-size T-Rex skull on loan from the Field Museum greeting them as they enter.

May Day Outdoor Exhibit and Self-Guided Tour
A self-guided outdoor exhibit featuring biographies of more than 100 people buried at Radical Row. Visitors can explore the site at their own pace and learn about the labor leaders, activists, and radicals who shaped working-class history.

Thatcher Woods Walking Tour
From the first Indigenous people to our Cook County Forest Preserves, the Des Plaines River has been a part of the history of River Forest. On this walk we will explore land and history along the river, think about many who have passed along, and see what they've left us. We will begin and end at Trailside Museum, a community landmark.

Oak Park and River Forest Symphony Chamber Starts
The concert will be held at Good Shepard Lutherin Church and begins with Beethoven’s Quintet in E-flat Major, Op. 16. The Tikaani Quartet will perform select movements from quartets by Haydn, Brahms and Bartok. The concert concludes with Ravel’s Piano Trio in A Minor.
