Enjoy Small Town Charm in Berkeley

Berkeley is a neighborly village with adorable homes and tree-lined streets full of Midwestern heart. Just 14 miles west of downtown Chicago and accessible via commuter railroads and major interstates, Berkeley’s history as a farming community may come as something of a surprise due to its proximity to the Windy City, but the land was farmed as early as 1834!

The local community worked together in 1948 to establish Berkeley’s first school, a one-room school house called Sunnyside. Today, the school operates out of a much larger building under the name Sunnyside Elementary School.

Primarily a residential community, Berkeley was the home to the headquarters of the World Dryer Corporation, and you’ve almost certainly dried your hands with one of the company’s hand dryers. World Dryer Corporation has been a leading manufacturer in hand dryers for well over half a century – and the company was founded right here in Berkeley!

But it’s not all houses and industry in Berkeley; the village also enjoys easy access to Illinois Prairie Path, a network of 61 miles of biking and hiking trails. Get out and explore Berkeley today.
