Meet us where modern miracles happen
Higgins Glass Studio has been making extraordinary glass art since the 1940s. The family company, best known for its exquisite fused glass circles known as rondelays, is a Riverside must-see.
Whether you're looking to purchase a piece of art or just admiring the spectacular artistry, Higgins Glass Studio will live up to its motto: modern miracles with everyday glass.
Higgins Glass, founded in 1948 by married couple Frances Stewart and Michael Higgins, employs a unique and ancient method of glass creation known as fusing. The labor-intensive technique was all but abandoned in the mid-twentieth century in favor of glass blowing.
Stewart and Higgins, who met at the Chicago Institute of Design, revitalized and pioneered glass fusion, wherein a piece of enamel-coated glass is layered with another piece of enamel-coated glass, then placed on a mold and heated, creating texture and color complexity.
Higgins Glass Studio, now run by the Higgins' talented apprentice Johnathan Wimmer, offers an array of beautiful products, from useful items, such as bowls and platters, to decorative pieces, including hanging mobiles and Christmas tree ornaments.
Pieces by Higgins Glass Studio are a testament to artistry and style that will be appreciated and admired across generations and eras. Higgins Glass Studios work are included in the collections of several notable museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
