Meet us for pierogi and potato pancakes
Sawa's Old Warsaw in Broadview is a famous buffet-style restaurant and events space that's been serving Polish classics for over 50 years. It often has live jazz acts too!
Walter Sawa, a Polish immigrant and decorated WWII veteran, opened Sawa’s Old Warsaw in 1973, bringing Polish cuisine to Broadview. Sawa worked as a pork butcher before joining the Polish armed forces following Germany's invasion of Poland in 1939. During the war, he was captured by enemy forces and detained at a prisoner of war camp but managed to escape. For his bravery, Sawa earned medals of honor from both the Polish and British armies.
Sawa immigrated to the U.S. in 1948, opening several restaurants in Chicago’s thriving Polish neighborhoods before bringing Sawa's Old Warsaw to Broadview, where the restaurant has become a beloved institution known for its delicious pierogi, stuffed cabbage, fried pork cutlets, Polish sausage and more.
The restaurant, now run by Sawa's son, also has private events space that can be rented for parties and gatherings.
Sawa’s is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The restaurant is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
A lunch buffet at Sawa’s is $18 for adults, $9.50 for kids between the ages of 4 and 10 and $1.50 for kids under 4.
Today Sawa’s Old Warsaw is run by Walter Sawa’s son, Stuart, who keeps the restaurant’s tradition alive.
Located at 9200 W. Cermak Road in Broadview, Sawa’s Old Warsaw is an easy 20-minute drive west of downtown Chicago.
