Scudiero's Italian Bakery & Deli

Meet us where bread is baked by family

Scudiero’s Italian Bakery & Deli is a beloved family bakery in Melrose Park, founded by Italian immigrant and third-generation baker Umbaldo Datoli.

Scudiero's sells delicious baked Italian bread, as well as excellent sandwiches and imported Italian goods. It also offers catering services.

Datoli opened Scudiero's in 1954, having immigrated to the U.S. following World War II, leaving behind the family bakery he'd inherited from his father, who had inherited it from his own father.

The tradition of passing down the family bakery continued, with Datoli's daughter Lena taking up operations following his death. Today, Scudiero's is run by Datoli's six grandsons.

With five generations of bakers in the family, it's no wonder Scudiero's is legendarily delicious. Its bread is baked daily, using the family recipe, now over 150 years old.

As is tradition when buying bread at Scudiero’s, be sure to take a picture of yourself holding up your bag of bread, so it can hang in the bakery among hundreds of similar pictures taken by the likes of neighborhood regulars to famous faces, including Frank Sinatra!
