Meet us where cultures and nations blend over delicious food
The former owner of Oak Park’s famed restaurant Taste of Brasil brings you this welcoming cafe that blends cuisines from Brazil and beyond.
Mulata Kitchen cooks up handmade empanadas, savory baked pies called “pastel assado” in Brazil. These delicious empanadas come in a wide variety of flavors including mushroom, spinach, ham and cheese, beef, hearts of palm and more!
Try Mulata's homemade Brazilian cheese bread, pão de queijo. Made with tapioca flour, mozzarella and parmesan cheese, it's a gluten-free delight.
And don't forget to order one of Mulata's gourmet sandwiches. The turkey meltdown is a crowd favorite, made with Chihuahua cheese, bacon, smoked turkey, avocado and house-made chimichurri pressed between slices of Mulata Kitchen’s signature rustic bread. You won’t regret trying this sandwich!
Mulata Kitchen is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Beverages start at about $5, while sandwiches begin at roughly $13. Empanadas cost around $4.45 each.
Mulata Kitchen founder Cristiane Pereira, a proud Brazilian, has built a welcoming space for the diverse community of Oak Park. You can catch her behind the counter or in the kitchen making gourmet sandwiches, empanadas and customized blended Brazilian coffees.
While Pereira knows the name of her restaurant has some negative connotations in the U.S, the word, she says, has very positive meaning in Latin culture, defining it as a “beautiful, unique, and exotic blend of people, cultures, nations, ethnicities, and languages.”
Located at 136 N. Oak Park Ave., Mulata Kitchen is near many major Oak Park attractions, including Frank Lloyd Wright's Unity and the Ernest Hemingway Birthplace Museum. The restaurant is just a two-minute walk from the Oak Park Stop on the CTA Green Line and a 10-minute walk from the Oak Park Stop on the Union Pacific West Metra Line.
