Meet us where New Orleans and Ireland say “cheers”
Shanahan's is a cozy bar and restaurant serving up delicious Cajun and Creole dishes in the heart of Forest Park.
Owner and chef Tim Shanahan opened Shanahan's in 1977 in New Orleans, then moved his restaurant in 1990 to Forest Park, where it's become the area's most authentic Cajun restaurant and bar, despite it having the appearance of an Irish pub.
You'll find all the Creole and Cajun classics on the dinner menu, from po'boys and jambalaya to etouffee and gumbo. For brunch, Shanahan's serves up delicious shrimp and grits, crepes, breakfast po'boys and more.
Shanahan's is as dedicated to its community as the community is dedicated to it, going so far as to memorialize the bar's late regular Loretta O'Mara Walsh, who used to eat at the pub three times a week. Be sure to check out the plaque, which hangs on the wall in O'Mara Walsh's memory and bears her catchphrase: "Let's go to Shanahan's!" You can also sit at her preferred spot, known affectionately as "Loretta's table."
Shanahan's is closed on Mondays.
Entrees start at about $11.
Tim Shanahan runs the restaurant with the help of his wife Radana.
Shanahan’s is located a half-mile walk from the Harlem Stop on the CTA Blue Line Train and a 0.8-mile walk from the Harlem/Lake Stop on the Green Line.
